Primary Functions

  • Perform daily curbside and commercial refuse and recycling collection on assigned routes, loading carts, bags, bulky items, and bins while maintaining a safe pace and proper lifting techniques to minimize injury risk.

  • Participate in routine safety toolbox talks, training sessions, and competency assessments (e.g., forklift, HAZWOPER, confined space awareness) and apply learning to everyday operations.
  • Support waste reduction initiatives by identifying opportunities for increased recycling, composting, and reuse during collection rounds and communicating findings to supervisors and program coordinators.

  • Coordinate with dispatch and route planners to adapt to schedule changes, road closures, and prioritized pickups, using radio or mobile communications and maintaining clear status updates.
  • Conduct curbside audits and property walkthroughs to identify persistent service issues, illegal dumping, or operational hazards, and provide detailed notes and photographic evidence for corrective action.
