Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Oversee planning, execution, and continuous delivery of the enterprise web program, defining quarterly roadmaps, release schedules, milestones, and success metrics to align web initiatives with organizational goals.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary web team (developers, content editors, QA, designers, and contractors), conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, capacity planning, and professional development.
- Manage and optimize the organization’s Content Management System (CMS) strategy (e.g., Drupal, WordPress, Sitecore), including governance models, templates, component libraries, and editorial workflows to ensure scalable content operations.
- Own web governance, policies and standards: content lifecycle, security patching, change control, brand and accessibility (WCAG 2.1/2.2) compliance, metadata and taxonomy governance, and approval processes.
- Serve as the primary stakeholder liaison for web initiatives — collect requirements, prioritize features and fixes, facilitate cross-functional governance boards, and translate business goals into technical acceptance criteria.
- Drive technical modernization and architecture decisions for web properties: component-based front-end frameworks, headless CMS patterns, API integrations, CDN configuration, and cloud hosting strategies.
- Establish and enforce a robust release management and QA process: staging/testing environments, automated unit/integration/end-to-end tests, manual UAT coordination, rollback plans, and post-release reviews.
- Partner with DevOps and platform engineering to implement CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, monitoring/alerting, and runbook documentation for site reliability and fast incident resolution.
- Define, track, and report web KPIs (traffic, conversions, page speed/CLS/LCP, bounce, engagement, accessibility score, error rates) using analytics platforms (Google Analytics/GA4, Adobe Analytics) and present actionable insights to leadership.
- Lead SEO strategy and execution alongside marketing: technical SEO audits, site architecture and URL strategy, schema markup, canonicalization, crawl budget optimization, and coordination with content teams for keyword-driven content.
- Drive site performance optimization initiatives: page speed improvements, image optimization, critical rendering path tuning, resource caching strategies, and CDN and edge caching rules to improve Core Web Vitals and mobile experience.
- Ensure digital accessibility compliance (WCAG): implement semantic HTML, ARIA patterns, keyboard navigation, color contrast remediation, and coordinate accessibility testing and remediation plans.
- Manage vendor relationships and third-party integrations (analytics vendors, search providers, tag management systems, e-commerce platforms, personalization engines), negotiating contracts, SLAs, and delivery timelines.
- Own budget planning and resource allocation for web operations: forecasting maintenance costs, vendor fees, platform licensing, and prioritized investment in modernization or new features.
- Drive content strategy and editorial operations: governance of content models, taxonomy, metadata, front-end components, publishing cadence, content migration and large-scale site launches.
- Coordinate cross-channel digital campaigns with marketing and product teams to ensure website readiness, landing page builds, tracking, personalization, and post-campaign performance analysis.
- Define and maintain component libraries, design system integration, and front-end code review practices to ensure consistency, accessibility, and reusability across web properties.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure web security best practices: vulnerability scanning, secure coding standards, third-party dependency management, and incident response coordination.
- Lead A/B testing and conversion rate optimization programs: hypothesis generation, experiment design, analytics instrumentation, and translating outcomes into product or content changes.
- Serve as the escalation point for production incidents related to web properties: coordinate on-call response, coordinate fixes across engineering and hosting vendors, manage stakeholder communication and post-incident retrospectives.
- Manage large-scale site migrations and replatforming projects: data mapping, redirect strategies, SEO preservation, testing plans, and cross-team cutover coordination.
- Maintain documentation for roadmaps, architecture diagrams, release notes, runbooks, content model schemas, and editorial guides to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer across teams.
- Champion continuous improvement by collecting user feedback, running usability testing with UX teams, and prioritizing UX and accessibility enhancements in the roadmap.
- Facilitate sprint planning, backlog grooming, and Agile ceremonies for web squads; collaborate with product owners and scrum masters to keep delivery steady and predictable.
- Coordinate data governance and tagging strategies with analytics and data teams to ensure accurate event tracking, conversion measurement, and compliance with privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
