Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Pick, pack and prepare customer orders for shipment accurately and on time using RF scanners, handheld devices, and a warehouse management system (WMS) while meeting daily productivity and accuracy KPIs.
  • Receive incoming shipments: unload trailers, verify shipments against packing lists, inspect product condition, and report shortages or damages per SOPs.
  • Stage, palletize, label and prepare orders for carrier pickup (UPS, FedEx, LTL) — ensuring BOLs, shipping labels and documentation are complete and legible.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely (pallet jack, hand truck, powered pallet jack) and, where certified, operate forklifts for loading/unloading and staging pallets.
  • Conduct accurate cycle counts and participate in scheduled inventory audits, reconcile discrepancies in the WMS, and document variances following inventory control procedures.
  • Perform quality inspections on picked product to ensure order accuracy, proper labeling, correct SKU selection, and appropriate packaging to prevent returns and damage claims.
  • Load and unload trailers using proper safe-lifting techniques and secure goods using stretch wrap, straps, and banding; prepare loads for transport according to carrier and safety standards.
  • Process returns (RMA) and damaged goods following return-to-stock or disposal procedures, update records, and coordinate with supervisors for disposition.
  • Pack fragile or oversized items with appropriate cushioning and packaging materials to protect product integrity during transit and reduce transit damage.
  • Sort, segregate and stage items for cross-dock operations, outbound shipments and store transfers, ensuring routing accuracy and on-time execution.
  • Use RF scanners and WMS to perform bin-to-bin transfers, putaways, and replenishment to maintain optimal picking locations and minimize stockouts.
  • Collaborate with weekend leads and logistics planners to prioritize orders, manage urgent shipments, and support same-day or next-day delivery requirements.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, aisles and staging zones to comply with OSHA and internal safety standards; report hazards and near-misses immediately.
  • Follow temperature control and sanitation protocols for perishable or regulated products (where applicable), ensuring chain-of-custody documentation and labeling compliance.
  • Document and communicate operational exceptions such as damaged inventory, missing parts, and delayed shipments to supervisors and customer service teams in a timely manner.
  • Assist with loading docks and yard management tasks, including trailer checks, dock scheduling, and coordinating with carriers during busy weekend windows.
  • Support packing material inventory control by monitoring usage, requisitioning supplies, and minimizing waste through proper packing techniques.
  • Train and mentor weekend temporary staff and new hires on picking, packing, equipment use, and company safety policies to maintain team performance and reduce errors.
  • Adhere to all security protocols for inventory control, access, and equipment, including product scanning, signing for shipments, and following chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Execute special projects such as kitting, labeling campaigns, sample pulls, or promotional packouts during weekend shifts to meet business deadlines.
  • Track and report daily metrics (units per hour, picks per hour, error rates, shrinkage) to weekend supervisor and contribute ideas to improve throughput and accuracy.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process improvements, ergonomics fixes, and time-saving suggestions to increase productivity.
  • Support customer-focused tasks such as order reconciliation for high-priority customers, rush order handling, and coordination with customer service for order exceptions.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with ad-hoc reporting for weekend operations, including daily productivity and exception logs to support weekday planning.
  • Help coordinate with maintenance and facilities teams to keep equipment in safe working order; report malfunctions that impact weekend throughput.
  • Support seasonal and promotional initiatives by helping stage, pick, and pack promotional bundles and displays.
  • Provide backup coverage for other warehouse roles (e.g., shipping clerk, returns processor) when volume or absences require flexibility.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training refreshers, and certification renewals scheduled on weekends or overnight shifts.
  • Aid in inventory reconciliation projects and month-end physical inventory counts as requested by the inventory control team.
  • Serve as a weekend point of contact for third-party carriers when needed and confirm shipment manifests and driver paperwork.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Hands-on experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) such as Manhattan, Oracle NetSuite, SAP EWM, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with RF barcode scanners and handheld data terminals for picking, cycle counts, and shipping confirmations.
  • Safe operation of material handling equipment: manual pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and powered hand trucks; forklift operation preferred (certification a plus).
  • Knowledge of shipping documentation: Bills of Lading (BOL), packing lists, commercial invoices, and return authorization (RMA) processes.
  • Strong inventory control skills: performing cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies, and executing bin-to-bin transfers accurately.
  • Basic computer skills: entering and retrieving data in WMS, scanning systems, Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for simple reporting.
  • Packaging and kitting skills: selecting appropriate packing materials, performing light assembly, and labeling to carrier and retail requirements.
  • Familiarity with carrier requirements (UPS, FedEx, USPS, LTL) and basic understanding of carrier pick-up processes and timelines.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards (OSHA guidelines), PPE usage, and safe lifting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret SKU labels, packing slips, inventory tags, and product specifications.
  • Experience handling temperature-sensitive or regulated products and following HACCP or cold-chain procedures (if applicable).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor equipment troubleshooting and coordination with maintenance teams.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements
