Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Receive inbound shipments during weekend shifts, verify quantity and condition against packing lists and purchase orders, and log discrepancies in the warehouse management system (WMS).
- Unload trailers and containers safely using pallet jacks, hand trucks, and forklifts (when certified), following loading/unloading SOPs to prevent product damage.
- Stage inbound materials and products to designated receiving and quarantine areas, ensuring rotation by FIFO/FEFO rules and temperature requirements where applicable.
- Accurately pick customer orders using RF barcode scanners and WMS-guided pick lists, maintaining pick accuracy targets (e.g., 98–100%) and meeting daily productivity quotas.
- Pack and label orders following packing standards, including correct cartonization, cushioning, sealing, and affixing shipping labels and paperwork to meet carrier requirements.
- Prepare outbound shipments by staging, palletizing, wrapping, and coordinating pickup with carriers; complete carrier manifests and bill of lading documentation as required.
- Conduct cycle counts and assist with monthly or ad-hoc inventory audits, investigate discrepancies, and update inventory records in the WMS to maintain inventory integrity.
- Operate powered industrial trucks (sit-down forklift, pallet jack, order picker) and other material handling equipment safely and in compliance with company policy and OSHA regulations.
- Inspect product for quality issues (damage, contamination, mislabeled items), segregate non-conforming items, and escalate as per returns or quality control procedures.
- Load and secure outbound freight on trailers, ensuring proper weight distribution, strap/secure methods, and shipment integrity for transit.
- Perform basic carton consolidation, pallet building and shrink-wrap to commercial standards to reduce transit damage and optimize truck load plans.
- Execute cross-docking tasks to move inbound freight directly to outbound staging areas for expedited shipments, reducing handling time and order-to-ship cycle.
- Record and maintain accurate daily logs and paperwork for inbound, outbound, and inventory activities, ensuring traceability and audit readiness.
- Use warehouse software (WMS, TMS, scanning mobile devices) and basic computer tools (Excel, order portals) to process transactions, print labels, and update status in real time.
- Adhere to hazardous materials handling procedures when applicable, including correct labeling, segregation, and documentation for HAZMAT and DOT compliance.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas on the warehouse floor and dock to support efficient weekend operations and safety compliance.
- Follow PPE requirements and safety protocols, participate in pre-shift safety briefings, and report safety hazards, near misses, or incidents promptly.
- Support peak periods and seasonal surges by working extended weekend hours or overtime with flexibility and a focus on meeting customer delivery windows.
- Communicate proactively with weekend supervisors, dispatch, and carrier representatives to resolve shipment issues, delays, or special handling needs.
- Train and mentor new or temporary weekend associates in core warehouse processes, equipment operation, and safety best practices.
- Troubleshoot basic issues with scanners, printers, or conveyor components and escalate equipment faults to maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Execute returns processing: receive returned goods, inspect condition, update RMA records, and route items to restock, quarantine, or disposal.
- Meet KPIs for on-time shipments, order accuracy, units per hour, and damage-free handling while continuously seeking small process improvements.
- Maintain temperature-controlled storage protocols for cold or frozen product, monitor and record temperature logs, and ensure compliance with food safety or pharma storage rules when applicable.
Secondary Functions
- Assist warehouse management with weekend reporting and end-of-shift handover notes to ensure Monday teams have clear status updates.
- Support ad-hoc inventory projects such as bin reorganization, label replacement, or SKU rationalization tasks.
- Help coordinate small equipment moves and setup for temporary or special projects executed during weekend hours.
