  • Review, edit, and proofread long-form and short-form content for grammar, tone, brand voice, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to house style or external style guides (AP, Chicago, company style).
  • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar that aligns content production with marketing campaigns, product launches, seasonal initiatives, and SEO priorities, ensuring on-time delivery and cross-functional alignment.
  • Create detailed content briefs and templates for writers that include target audience, tone, messaging hierarchy, SEO keywords, internal links, metadata, and conversion goals to ensure consistency and performance.
  • Train, mentor, and coach writers on writing techniques, SEO best practices, headline and metadata optimization, voice and style, productivity tools, and professional development plans.
  • Implement and enforce quality assurance processes — fact checking, source verification, legal and compliance review, accessibility checks, and version control — to minimize rework and reputational risk.
  • Collaborate with SEO specialists to apply keyword research, search intent mapping, content gap analysis, schema and technical SEO recommendations directly to content briefs and published pages.
  • Manage editorial workflow using CMS and project management tools (WordPress, Contentful, Asana, Trello, Jira), ensuring tasks are tracked, deadlines are visible, and bottlenecks are resolved quickly.
  • Own the content review and approval process with stakeholders (product, legal, compliance, design), coordinating sign-offs and maintaining an audit trail for accountability.
  • Measure content effectiveness using analytics (Google Analytics, GA4, Adobe Analytics), content performance dashboards, engagement KPIs (time on page, bounce rate), and conversion metrics; present insights and optimization recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews for the writing team, defining success metrics and career paths, conducting feedback sessions, and addressing performance issues with a clear improvement plan.
  • Establish and evolve editorial guidelines, tone of voice documents, and style guides to scale content quality across writers and channels while preserving brand identity and legal compliance.
  • Drive content repurposing and distribution strategies — turning long-form pieces into blogs, social posts, email snippets, and knowledge-base articles — to increase reach and ROI from owned content.
  • Prioritize content requests and manage competing business needs through a transparent intake process and SLAs with internal teams, escalating when necessary to meet strategic goals.
  • Design and run editorial experiments (A/B tests, headline tests, content format trials) in partnership with analytics and growth teams to validate hypotheses and improve content conversion rates.
  • Manage freelance and agency relationships: scope work, produce briefs, set timelines, review deliverables, negotiate contracts, and optimize cost-per-piece while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure content meets accessibility (WCAG) and localization requirements when applicable, coordinating with UX, localization, and engineering teams to implement recommendations.
  • Maintain content taxonomy and metadata best practices, including accurate tagging, canonicalization, and internal linking strategies to support search discoverability and content governance.
  • Champion content security and version control practices, including archiving, content rollback, and ensuring sensitive content passes legal review before publishing.
  • Lead cross-functional content initiatives — such as product launch content, regulatory communications, and crisis messaging — acting as the editorial owner and point of escalation for content consistency.
  • Monitor industry trends in SEO, content marketing, UX writing, and editorial AI to introduce tools and processes (content optimization platforms, editorial review software, AI-assisted drafting) that improve speed and quality.
  • Create, maintain, and report against KPIs for the content team (output volume, quality scores, delivery SLAs, contribution to lead generation or revenue) and translate those metrics into actionable team goals.
  • Facilitate regular editorial and retrospective meetings to capture lessons learned, optimize workflows, celebrate wins, and iterate on operating procedures to increase team efficiency and morale.
  • Prepare and manage budget recommendations for content projects, tools, contractor spend, and training programs, aligning expenditures with measurable business outcomes.
