Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design and deliver safe, engaging, and progressive group yoga classes (Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Restorative, Ashtanga, Prenatal, and Therapeutic formats) that accommodate varying levels of experience and physical ability while ensuring correct alignment and breathwork cues.
  • Create individualized private-session plans after conducting thorough intake assessments that include movement screening, injury history, mobility/flexibility testing, and client goals to develop measurable short- and long-term progressions.
  • Provide clear, consistent verbal and hands-on adjustments and modifications to support students with injuries, mobility limitations, pregnancy, or chronic conditions while adhering to client consent and scope-of-practice boundaries.
  • Lead targeted workshops and specialty series (e.g., back care, stress reduction, prenatal yoga, postural rehabilitation, teacher training modules) that drive retention and deepen student engagement.
  • Integrate pranayama, meditation, and mindfulness practices into class sequencing to improve breath regulation, mental focus, and stress resilience, and tailor these techniques to group and private formats.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals (physical therapists, chiropractors, physicians) to implement complementary, evidence-informed yoga programs for clients with rehabilitative needs.
  • Maintain comprehensive client records, intake forms, progress notes, and contraindications according to studio policy and privacy regulations, and use those records to adapt ongoing programming.
  • Monitor class metrics and student feedback to iterate on offerings, optimize scheduling, and increase class attendance, retention, and revenue.
  • Teach and mentor assistant teachers and newly certified instructors, providing lesson plan feedback, class observation, and mentoring to elevate teaching quality and consistency.
  • Plan, coordinate and lead off-site events, retreats, and corporate wellness sessions including logistics, curriculum design, and client communication to expand studio reach and revenue streams.
  • Ensure a safe studio environment by performing routine safety checks of mats, props, and equipment, maintaining cleanliness standards, and enforcing policies that protect student wellbeing.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student alignment and movement patterns during classes to prevent injury and to recommend appropriate modifications or referrals.
  • Develop specialized therapeutic sequences and restorative protocols for clients with chronic pain, post-surgical recovery needs, or neurological conditions under the supervision or referral from healthcare providers when required.
  • Build strong client relationships through follow-up communication, progress updates, and tailored at-home practice recommendations to improve adherence and outcomes.
  • Promote studio classes and workshops through social media, newsletters, and community outreach while producing content that communicates class benefits and differentiators clearly and consistently.
  • Participate in program planning meetings and contribute to curriculum development, pricing strategy, and promotional calendars to support business growth.
  • Implement and follow emergency protocols including first aid, CPR/AED procedures when necessary, and report incidents per studio policy.
  • Track individual and cohort progress using qualitative and quantitative measures (attendance, performance milestones, client-reported outcomes) and present insights to studio leadership to influence programming decisions.
  • Provide consultations for new clients including goals-setting, alignment with membership options, and recommendations for private sessions, packages, or relevant workshops to help convert and retain clients.
  • Design accessible class sequences and accommodations for seniors, children, pre/postnatal clients, and populations with special needs, ensuring inclusivity and safety in programming.
  • Refine cueing language, class pacing, and hands-on assists to improve clarity and accessibility for non-native speakers and neurodiverse students.
  • Maintain and expand professional expertise through continuing education, attending conferences, and completing relevant certifications (e.g., Yoga Therapy, Prenatal, Trauma-Informed Yoga).
  • Adhere to studio and brand standards for lesson planning, class recordings, and digital content creation, ensuring consistent delivery across in-person and virtual platforms.
  • Support sales and membership initiatives by conducting discovery conversations, offering class recommendations, and assisting with onboarding new members to increase lifetime value.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with scheduling, class roster management, and coordination with front-desk staff to ensure classes are staffed and resources (props, space) are available.
  • Help maintain studio inventory (mats, blocks, straps, bolsters) and place orders as needed to ensure uninterrupted programming.
  • Collect and analyze student satisfaction surveys and feedback to make actionable recommendations for program improvements.
  • Support marketing campaigns by contributing content ideas, testimonials, class descriptions, and short video demos that improve search visibility and engagement.
  • Participate in staff meetings, contribute to curriculum planning, and help pilot new class formats or pricing experiments.
  • Provide occasional cover classes for other instructors and support holiday or special-event scheduling requirements.
  • Create and maintain a repository of lesson plans and sequences for internal use and teacher training programs.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Certified Yoga Teaching: RYT-200 required; RYT-500, Yoga Therapy, or Prenatal certification preferred.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; RYT-200 (200-hour Yoga Alliance certification) required.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or a related field; or advanced yoga certifications such as RYT-500, Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), or specialized prenatal/postnatal credentials.
