Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own the studio P&L and financial performance, including monthly budgeting, forecasting, managing cash flow, monitoring profit margins, and implementing cost-control measures to achieve revenue and margin targets.
  • Create, implement and continually optimize a diversified revenue model (drop-ins, class packages, memberships, workshops, private sessions, teacher trainings, retail, corporate classes and rentals) to maximize per-student lifetime value.
  • Design and maintain a balanced class schedule and programming strategy based on community needs, peak hours analysis, instructor strengths, student retention data, and seasonal trends to optimize studio capacity and attendance rates.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard and retain a high-performing teaching team, including conducting interviews, verifying credentials (e.g., RYT 200/500), coordinating mentor programs, and establishing performance expectations, pay structures and independent contractor agreements or employment contracts.
  • Provide ongoing teacher development, curriculum guidance, class sequencing standards and quality assurance to ensure consistent class experience, brand alignment and safe teaching practices.
  • Oversee front-desk operations and customer experience including bookings, check-in workflows, membership management, customer service escalation, studio policies, and maintaining a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for diverse students.
  • Implement, manage and optimize studio technology stack (e.g., Mindbody, WellnessLiving, Acuity, Square, Vagaro, Stripe) for scheduling, payments, CRM, reporting and automated communications.
  • Plan, execute and measure local and digital marketing campaigns including SEO and local search optimization (Google My Business), social media content (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok), email marketing and paid advertising to drive new client acquisition and retention.
  • Manage retail operations and vendor relationships for apparel, mats and wellness products, including inventory management, merchandising, pricing strategy, vendor selection and gross margin analysis.
  • Develop and lead revenue-generating events, workshops, teacher trainings, specialty series and retreats, from concept to logistics, pricing, vendor coordination, promotion and post-event analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with local business regulations, zoning, landlord lease agreements, tax filings, insurance policies (liability, property, worker classification), health and safety protocols and any required permits for classes and events.
  • Implement standardized health and safety and emergency procedures, including CPR/First Aid preparedness, incident reporting, sanitation protocols, and adherence to local public health guidance to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Oversee payroll, contractor payments, benefits (if applicable), independent contractor agreements, and HR processes including performance reviews, conflict resolution and staff scheduling.
  • Create and analyze operational metrics and KPIs — daily capacity utilization, average revenue per visit, churn/retention rates, customer lifetime value, lead conversion rates and teacher utilization — and use data to inform decisions and improve performance.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with local businesses, studios, wellness practitioners, fitness influencers, corporate wellness programs and community organizations to expand visibility and referral channels.
  • Drive pricing strategy and membership tier design, including promotions, trial offers, loyalty programs and seasonal packages to balance accessibility with studio profitability and lifetime customer value.
  • Manage physical studio upkeep, cleaning schedules, equipment maintenance, lighting, HVAC, sound systems, and space layout to create a safe, comfortable and brand-aligned environment.
  • Lead community-building initiatives such as member appreciation events, charity classes, outreach sessions, beginner-friendly series and inclusive programming to deepen member engagement and foster retention.
  • Execute onboarding experiences for new students, including orientation classes, intake forms for health/medical conditions, class recommendations and nurture sequences to accelerate retention and reduce churn.
  • Monitor competitor activity, local market trends and pricing changes and adjust programming, pricing and marketing strategies to maintain competitive advantage and market fit.
  • Negotiate leases, vendor contracts and professional services (cleaning, legal, accounting, insurance) and manage vendor relationships to control costs and maintain service levels.
  • Oversee studios’ visual identity and brand standards, ensuring consistent messaging across website, signage, social media, email and in-studio collateral to reinforce brand recognition and SEO presence.
  • Evaluate opportunities for additional revenue streams such as online classes, hybrid programming, on-demand content, corporate partnerships and satellite classes to scale the business sustainably.
  • Serve as public face of the studio — host classes, teach signature offerings, appear in promotional materials and public speaking opportunities to amplify credibility and community trust.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain the studio’s CRM and student database hygiene, import/export data as needed, and generate segmentation for targeted marketing and retention campaigns.
  • Support creation of monthly reports for stakeholders covering revenue, attendance, membership churn, teacher payouts and operational metrics.
  • Collaborate with external bookkeepers or accountants to prepare for monthly close, tax filings and annual budgeting cycles.
  • Assist with website content updates, on-site SEO improvements, Google Analytics tracking and conversion rate optimization for class sign-ups and membership pages.
  • Coordinate volunteer instructors, substitute teacher coverage and part-time staff scheduling during peak seasons, holidays and teacher absences.
  • Source and pilot software integrations (POS + booking + email) to reduce manual work and improve the member experience.
  • Curate retail assortments and promotional bundles for seasonal campaigns, teacher trainings and holiday gift guides.
  • Participate in local business groups, chambers of commerce and wellness networking events to increase referrals and community presence.
  • Manage licensing for music and use of copyrighted material in classes and workshops where required.
  • Run mystery-shop checks and student feedback sessions to validate service standards and identify continuous improvement opportunities.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; demonstrated ownership or management experience in a small business or studio environment.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality Management, Sports Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in business management, retail, marketing or HR are a plus.
